...on the road and at the shows with the Reinharts

What's News?

(dateline October, 2006)

--The Reinharts have been so busy playing private shows all around (which is great to keep the van rolling), that we have been remiss in playing out for the folks.  Poe's Pub with Dave Pollard and Turtlebox not withstanding, the Reinharts have played a very limited number of public shows.  Hopefully that will change over the winter as we intend on hitting the club scene and menu venue circuit both in and out of town to spread the gospel that is the Reinharts!  This is where you come in.  If there is a club near where you live that you think would fit the Reinharts' style and demeanor, by all means let us know.  You will join our fast growing street team and receive T-shirts, bumber stickers and special edition CD's (once they're out).  Just email us at the contact address and let us know.  If you can help us with names and numbers and getting the word out, then the Jangling Reinharts will reward your efforts.  Thanks.

--Special thanks to all the nice Richmonders who came out in force during the worst nor'easter of the season for an outdoor party last Friday night (October 6).  We hope to have some pictures up soon from the event that celebrated the Junior Book Club (right).

---Also, special thanks to the hospitality shown to the Reinharts by the Rowland's and friends at a BBQ in Richmond at the end of September.  We were also graced by the presence of two future guitar impresarios who shall remain nameless due to their age (we're all about internet safety), but let's just say that Collegiate continues to harbor talent in all forms.

--Rick and Buster travel to DC October 12 to take part in the Rising Star awards and banquet.

--Lately Buster can be found weekly (usually Tuesday) climbing Old Rag in the Shenandoah National Forest.  We think he is preparing for an assault on one of the world's famous peaks, but can't figure out which one yet.

  --This might be Buster.

--May review:  We played 20 gigs this past month and tempers are starting to flare up on stage.  It seems that Mike keeps leaving the toilet seat up and Rick is really getting steamed.  So if it looks like we're irked on stage, well now you know why.

--Had a blast down at Nagshead the middle of the month.  Played for some nice people up in Duck on Friday then returned to Kelly's after an 8 year hiatus.  Great place to play if you're not too concerned with your hearing.  The DJ is funky and current but loves to spin it loud!  Hope to be down at Nagshead some more this summer.  Of course you'll see it here first.

--Thanks to Jesse for putting us up for the night or two and providing guitars, bass and drums to keep music going at all hours.  We hope Trixie is doing better.  We also had the chance to watch Jesse compete in the ESA surf contest at 1st St.  where he promptly stole 2 out of the 3 categories he entered.  Friends, there is nothing better than kicking back on the beach on a beautiful day, with pretty good surf, good friends, and watching one of your buddies rip up the contest like he was cooking with Pam or Wesson or I don't know where we're going with this - but it was GREAT!  This is the now legendary shot of Jesse between sets on that historic day.  Jesse

--Thanks be also to James H. who kept the whole show rolling at Kelly's with his wizardry behind the board and his drumming and vocals on stage.  Here is James as Dorf the Bass player.  James

--Ok, I give up.  I've been looking for that stupid Tom V. and bike (with the stupid Chevy engine) for almost a year now.  I'm just keeping the chimp shot.  Is it almost May again already?  Seems like the same thing happened last year also.  On to some news

--Thanks to all our friends down at UNC who made the Friday so memorable.  Thanks to "a friend" who promptly emailed a critique of the band so that we would have something to read on our Blackberries while eating Boo Berry  on the way back to Richmond.  We are taking your thoughtful concerns seriously and will have a talk with Buster about wearing pants in the future.

--The Reinharts return to Nagshead May 12 and 13 to polish their surfing form and visit friends.  They will be at Kelly's on Saturday the 13th so bring out your friends or send your enemies or whatever.  You know one of the last times we were down there, Rick and Buster committed accidental larceny.  We thought we were to meet friends at someone's house (we'll call him "Jon") to do borrow some boards and go surfing with friends.  Rick and Buster arrive about 2pm at said friend's house (again, we'll call him "Jon").  Since "Jon" was not there yet, they decided to wait in the cockpit of small sailboat parked in his driveway, have a beverage and watch the neighbors play basketball.  After a while, one of "Jon's" house guests (people were always staying there as they passed through) came home and went inside.  We said hey, but that was about it.  Still no sign of "Jon" or "Jesse".  Knowing that "Jon" kept his board underneath the cottage above the carport, we decided that maybe our party was already on the beach waiting for us.  We grabbed a nice 9' board and a boogey board and headed down to the beach.  Sure enough, about a 1/4 mile up the beach, we saw "Jesse" and Kyle Mills (real name) surfing with a few others.  We ran in the water excited to have finally found our friends as well as having a wonderful swell to work with.  After catching a wave, Rick paddled out to talk to "Jesse" and say that he and Buster must have been late or misinterpreted the meeting spot.  Rick explained that they had waited in the boat for about 45 minutes before deciding to grab the boards and hit the beach.  "You mean 'Jon's' old house?",  "Jesse" exclaimed."  Rick caught off card offered up, "you mean, 'Jon' moved?"  "Oh yeah, a while back.  Rents his place out to some girl."  It was at that moment Rick realized that he and Buster had commited larceny.  Rick looked at the nice board he'd been riding and the perfect surf.  "So do you think I should take the board back?  Or is it understood that if the surf is good and an honest mistake had been made, that it's OK to finish the surf session?"  Now "Jesse"is a former pro surfer, great musician, and one of the most popular and best-liked guys at Nagshead so we knew he could see how this should be played out.  "Dude (not sure if he said that but it works in the story), you gotta take it back NOW. "  Sadly, Rick knew he was right.  So he and Buster caught their last waves in and started the wet, chaffing trudge back to the scene of the crime.  Sure enough, coming up the beach, they see the girl they'd said hey to earlier heading in their direction (now why didn't she say anything to us about sitting and having beverages in her boat in her driveway?).  Anyway, it was good that we were heading back with the stolen goods.  That is probably the only thing that made our story believable to her.  She was very understanding though her basketball player neighbors who fingered us wanted to call the police.  Narcs.  We parted ways and promised never to take anything from her again - with her knowledge.

--Thanks go out to Matt Goves - he of the Ernies - for hitting the road with us a bit on drums while Danny attended the burning man festival.

--stay in touch

(dateline June 14, 2005)

---Many thanks to those that have made what we do so fun lately!  To our friends in Atlanta, Athens, Chicago, New York, and DC...thanks for the drinks and the company.  We are encouraged to travel your way sooner than later.  And maybe even have time for a stopover in Nebraska to see what the hullabaloo is about.  This is getting dangerously close to blogging.  Not gonna do it.  By the way, who can explain to us what WallyBall is?

---Buster recently hung out with none other than Ryan Adams after the show at the Norva in Norfolk on a recent Sunday.  Apparently they had beers at Hells Kitchen just down the road a piece.  Still waiting on the uplink from Buster's cell phone pix to seal that deal.  Speaking of which, we heard from a good source from Nebraska (who was in Richmond to see the Reinharts) that Ryan Adams had somewhat of a reunion w/ bandmates from Whiskeytown at their show in Raleigh last Wednesday.   That was a show not to be missed unless you were at the Reinhart show in Richmond on the same night.

--Our friend Tom V. is still on the road doing shows at Myrtle Beach.  If you are on vacation down there, be sure to look for him at one of the 400 clubs that offer entertainment.  Here is a picture of Tom on his new bike (notice the Chevy engine).......Tom and Bike.  Ok we're still obviously looking for that shot.  We'll get it up as soon as we find it.  Reinharts out!

(dateline May 2005)

---OK, Ok, sorry about the lack of timeliness in updates to this section.  Reinharts are not Bloggers.  We don't get blogging (no offense to you bloggers, but what the hell is going on?).  Anyway, so we dip into these pages from time to time  just so you know we are alive and rockin' (acoustic rockin' to some of you).  We've been very busy with many many private dates which is good since that is what allows us to play the clubs at such an affordable rate (nothing).  We have new t-shirts with the "United the Beautiful" logo as well as some keen re-issues of the Keith Mill's designed logo in women's wear.  Chocolate with blue ink is the current must-have!  If you are interested in one and we aren't going to be near you soon, please contact us and we'll get pricing info to you.  At press time, the cost should be $15.oo plus S/H.  More about that later.

--Chris Lowry is finishing up his first year at grad school though he will continue classes throughout the summer and next 8-9 years.  The Reinharts miss him and wish him a speedy recovering from this current need of "self-improvement."  He and Robin just bought a great house in Woodland Heights a stones throw from the mighty James River in Richmond.  Sorry we couldn't be there to help with the moving guys, but we had some shows to rock!  Chris should be popping up on stage any minute now we're guessing.

-- James Hardwick has been seen playing some bass with the band here and there as of late.  In fact, wasn't that James crashing in on another band's gig at W&L taking over the lead singers mic and singing "La Grange"?    The crowd roared its approval as the Reinharts looked on like proud papas.  More on James later....

---OK...gotta go change some strings...Keep Jangling

Oh yeah, one more Danny meets bug picture.

(dateline December 2004)        HAPPY JOYOUS PEACEFUL SEASONAL JOY TO YOU AND ALL YOUR LOVED ONES

--Life is finally catching up with the Reinharts.  Danny and Shannon welcomed an 8lb and some ounce boy named Jude into their boys-terous home the Sunday after Thanksgiving.  All our best to the Fishers on their new tiny giant.  Not to be outdone, Mike Hughes married his longtime love Jesse in early December honeymooned in Cancun.  As James Hardwick would say, Cancun is nice, but fresh is better.  I'm not really sure what that means.  Chris Lowry found himself buried in exams as part of his MBA curriculum.  He truly is a Renaissance man - like the Medici of Florence.  Greg is plying the highways and webways trying to sell pencils.  He has invented a number 2.5 pencil he says is really far superior to the number 2 and falls just short of an Apple G4.  Jorge is almost completely recovered from yet another knee operation.  The doc has said he must concentrate more when striking his congas and stop missing severely knashing  his knee.  As usual, Rick and Buster watch all of this play out in front of them while they stand on the sidelines and smile.

(dateline August 2004)

--OK, summer festival season is nearly over.  The Reinharts came, saw and rocked the various venues.  They met nice folks along the way; you know who you are.  Rick did indeed go to France where he has decided to move.  He now commutes to every show from a small town in Brittainy, France.  He promises to post a few pics from the trip.

--Danny was recently attacked by a spider in Morehead City, NC.  He has been on life support ever since at the Bunny Ranch in Carson City, Nevada having the venom sucked out.  See picture here

--Here is a look at why  Mike Hughes  is called "The Human Workhorse".  He's also called other things..

(dateline June 2004)

--Summer festival season is approaching and the Reinharts are staying busy with the festivities.  They will be playing at StoneRidge (near Wolf Trap) on Friday June 11, then the following Friday nearby at yet another outdoor amphitheatre at Victory Lakes in Gainsville, Va.  July brings them to Lynchburg on the 23rd for a 5 pm show.

--Rick is going to France at the end of June for some much needed R & R.  That's right, Red wine and raccoon!  The Reinharts will hold down the fort in the meantime as Chris catches back up with the group regaining his status as sweatiest frontman.

--Mike Hughes and Jessie just bought a house in Richmond which is very convenient since that is where they live.  The Reinharts are excited about his basement!

--check out the new intro video to the band!

(dateline January 2004)
--
Mike Hughes has been playing bass with the Reinharts here of late.  Mike spent his formidable years on the road with The Ernies and can even be found on the original Tony Hawk Skateboard video game.  We think you  have to pull off some gnarly shove-its. and acid drops and then go to the skate park in Chicago to see him.  Mike adds an amazing musical element to the shows switching between standard electric bass and a stick bass.  His energy is a beautiful thing to behold - especially when we're breaking down.  Welcome Mike!

--If you've been to one of our shows recently you've been lucky enough to catch a legend in the Richmond area -Harry Gore.  Harry embodies all that is wonderful about making music spiritual.  The Reinharts have been lucky to have Harry sit in on a number of occasions on everything from tambourine to electric guitar.  But its his singing and spirituality that make it a treat to share the stage with him.  You can check out Harry in his own band - The Big Guys - around town.

--The Reinharts also welcome James Hardwick into the fold.  James is another Richmond musician who brings his own energy from years of experience with different bands.  He is recently back to Richmond and we've enjoyed his enthusiasm and especially his humor.  He was a life saver at the AOL Christmas Party.  Thanks James!
